Titled: Happy Ending
4'X5' $575 The end of the world is a terrifying and inevitable doom many in younger generations cannot help but face. The end of human life, the end of future, the end of the joys of finger painting on a giant canvas. But also the end of suffering, oppression, sadness and hate. The end of human’s cruel exploitation of nature and each other. Perhaps a new beginning to a peaceful aftermath. What if the end of the world was beautiful?: |
to be Free
11"x14", Mixed Media $125 The increasing wildfires in California and Australia are just some examples of climate change’s disastrous impacts. Inspired by Audrea Lim’s article, The Ideology of Fossil Fuels (the background text), this piece questions the way our culture defines freedom. Does protecting human’s ability to consume resources and material goods really create the just world so many claim to want? Viewing climate change through an anthropocentric lense blinds us to it’s largest impacts: the loss of non-human life. The right of nature “to be Free” from human exploitation must be protected because all life has inherent value. |
off The Rock
Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, Gold Key Original - $500, Prints - $125 The title “off The Rock” is a reference to an argument that, because our environmental situation is beyond repair from human-caused climate change, humans should invest all resources in transporting humanity to Mars and “off The Rock.” In contrast to the pessimistic title, the depth of water and bright colors evoke feelings of curiosity and excitement for life. The only red in the image is on the boy which creates a strong point of emphasis on the boy and his fearlessness to move into and explore the river. This contrast between the title and image reflects my mindset because I am hopeful for my personal future but am hopeless for the future of humanity. |
